Governing Body
Charing School is fortunate to have an enthusiastic and extremely committed group of Governors working hard to raise standards and continue to improve the learning environment for all our pupils. Recently we have re-organised our Governance Structure to provide more focus and accountability for specific tasks:
Full Governing Body
Chair: Paul Cook
Vice Chair: Sheila Cowdry
Strategy Committee Resources Committee Learning & Development Committee
Chair: Di Dawson (Finance and Buildings) Chair: Ruth Burns
Chair: Paul Cook
The Full Governing Body includes representatives from parents, staff, community, Canterbury Diocese, the Local Authority and, of course, our Head Teacher Mrs Anne Foulkes.
Governors are responsible for:
-
Setting the direction of the school (aims and objectives)
-
Setting the policies for achieving the aims and objectives
-
Setting the targets for achieving the aims and objectives
-
Monitoring and evaluating progress
-
Challenging and supporting the Head Teacher as appropriate (being a critical friend)
We have been fortunate recently, that when Parent Governor vacancies have arisen we have been oversubscribed with applicants, and have held elections. This provides parents with greater choice, and enables us to bring new ideas, skills and viewpoints to the team. All governors (new and serving) are attending training, in order to ensure that we have the latest information with which to guide the strategic direction of the school.
News May 09
The school has recently had an assessment week. The analysis of the data shows that many children are now making accelerated progress, and that the trend of underachievement is being reversed. As a governing body, we are working extremely hard in conjunction with the Head Teacher to ensure this drive for improvement continues, for the benefit of every pupil.
