ENABLING ALL TO BECOME GIFTED AND CONFIDENT CITIZENS OF THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY

Charing CEP School PTA

****!!! PTA Meeting Thursday 8th October 8pm in The Oak !!!****

Everyone welcome

Charing CE Primary School PTA are a very friendly bunch of parents, carers and teachers who like  to contribute our time and energy to ensuring that our children and their classmates have the very best that Charing School has to offer. We welcome everyone- no contribution is too small. Whether you like to help behind the scenes or want to be in the thick of things; whether you can help once a year or once a term,

WE NEED YOU!!

We meet roughly once a month for a round up of events planned and those recently undertaken. If you would like more information, please contact Mrs Long in the school office.

Watch this space for the latest news and information about events planned for 2009/2010.

This year we won a grant for £5118 from the Lottery "Awards for All" scheme. This paid for the new end decks for our two trampolines, training for another instructor, new competition leotards, crash mats,  basketball hoops, and football goals. The cheque was presented by Vic Reeves and Nancy Sorrell, and KMFM's Webbo & Kirstyn. All the children benefit from our fantastic trampolining facilities during PE lessons, and we also have a very popular and successful school team. Likewise, our football and basketball clubs are gaining in popularity and now have first class equipment they need to go from stength to strength.

This means that the fundraising events held this year- the  successful Sponsored Pancake Flip which raised over £450; a Cake Sale raising £95; collecting mobile phones and textiles, which brought in £20 and £200 respectively; a Boot Fair which made us £400, several sales of nearly new school uniform; not to mention the "Odd man out Competition and refreshments at the annual Sports Day and Year 6 v Parents Rounders Match- have resulted in a nice little nest egg! We have compiled a shortlist of ideas to spend this on, including some sort of regular music activity, new reading books, and developing the vegetable and wildlife gardens. These are being investigated further. We will be deciding on the way forward at the beginning of the new school year, so if you would like to have a say please come along to the next PTA meeting (date to be arranged).

Thanks to everyone who has supported these events. Also a special thank you to Charing Business Association for all their help with the "Odd man out" competition, and to our local butchers, Alan and Richard, for supplying us with sausages!

We have also been busy collecting (& counting!) vouchers from Sainsburys, Tesco, Nestle (box tops), and Flora. We have done well, new equipment has been ordered and will be in school soon.

Not all our activities are of a fundraising nature. We continue to support cooking in school, ensuring that every child in Reception and Year 1 experiences this important life skill, and has great fun in the process.

We also organise the annual Year 6 Prom- you may have seen the recent picture in the Kentish Express. This year the theme was James Bond, next year? Who knows?! Whatever it is, you can be sure that the PTA will approach it with their usual flair and enthusiasm.
